The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) is deploying chaplains in Vancouver, British Columbia, after a driver drove into a crowd at the Filipino Lapu Lapu festival on Saturday night. At least 11 people have been killed, including a child, and dozens more have been injured.
The driver, a 30-year-old Vancouver man, drove an SUV through the crowd of festival-goers around 8 p.m. According to Vancouver police, the man was arrested at the scene and is in police custody.
“This is heartbreaking news that what should have been a time of celebration and community has turned into a senseless attack and loss of so many lives,” said Holly Lafont, manager of BG-RRT. “We want the families of those killed and injured to know that they are not alone. Crisis-trained chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team will be there to provide comfort and prayer in Jesus’ Name to the community that has been devastated by this horrific attack.”
Our Mobile Ministry Center vehicle has also been deployed with our chaplains and will provide a place of prayer and respite for the community and first responders.
The Lapu Lapu festival was officially declared in British Columbia on April 27, 2023. It celebrates the Filipino community in Vancouver and includes live performances, cultural displays, and traditional food. The festival was just ending when the attack happened.
Will you pray for the families of those impacted by the car-ramming attack in Vancouver, those in the hospital, and for all who have recently experienced grief and loss? Pray for God’s comforting presence in the days ahead.
