Q:
I believe there probably is some kind of a Higher Being who created the universe, because I can't imagine it all happened by accident. But what proof do you have that God (if He really exists) cares anything about those of us who live on this earth?
A:
If God didn’t care for us, do you think He would have provided for our needs on this earth in so much detail? Or do you think He would have made it possible for us to enjoy the good things of life, if He wasn’t concerned about us and didn’t want us to be happy? Of course not.
In other words, one of the ways we know God cares for us is because of the way He provides for our lives right now. The Bible puts it this way: “That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God” (Ecclesiastes 3:13). Not only has God created this world so our physical needs will be met, but He has also given us the ability to enjoy life and to experience human love.
The real reason, however, I know God loves us is because He came down from heaven so we could know what He is like. He did this in the person of Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again to give us eternal life. Do you want to know what God is like? Look at Christ, for “He is the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15).
But listen: Christ didn’t only come to show us that God is real. He came to bridge the gap between us and God by taking away our sins on the cross. Why not open your heart and life to Him today?
