You may be right about your aunt; most of us have a hard time admitting our faults — let alone doing anything about them. The Psalmist prayed, “Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults” (Psalm 19:12).

But it might surprise your aunt to learn that even if she is as good as she thinks she is, she still would fall short of what God requires of us. God’s standard is nothing less than perfection. God is absolutely pure and holy, and even one sin — just one — would be enough to keep us out of heaven. No matter how hard we try, we can never measure up to God’s standard. The Bible says, “Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrong” (Habakkuk 1:13).

Does this mean no one will ever go to heaven? No, it doesn’t, because God has provided another way for us to be saved. That way is Jesus Christ, who came from heaven to make it possible for us to be forgiven and cleansed of our sins. He did this by becoming the perfect sacrifice for our sins, through His death on the cross.

Pray for your aunt, and encourage her to turn to Jesus and trust Him alone for her salvation. And the same is true for you. God loves you both and offers the gift of salvation to all who turn to Jesus Christ in faith and trust.
