Q:

Please pray I won't fall back into my old ways. I got out of prison recently and so far I've kept straight, but I can't find a job and my old friends keep urging me to get back into what I used to do (dealing drugs). I don't know how much longer I'll be able to hold on.

I fervently hope you won’t give in to the temptation to go back to your old ways — both for your sake and the sake of those whose lives you will destroy through drugs. And eventually you’ll pay a terrible price if you do, for almost certainly you’ll be sent back to prison — perhaps for a much longer term.

But I have a deeper reason for urging you not to go down that road. It is this: God loves you, and He has a better life in store for you! God knows all about you; after all, He made you and put you on this earth. And He doesn’t want you to waste your life or misuse it to harm others. The Bible’s words are true: “The way of the wicked leads them astray” (Proverbs 12:26).

Instead, God wants to come into your life and give you a new reason for living. And He will, as you open your heart and life to Jesus Christ. More than that, He will give you a new power to do what is right, as you seek His help. Turn to God today, and ask Christ to come into your life.

Then turn your back on those who might lead you astray. The Bible says, “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character'” (1 Corinthians 15:33). Instead, seek out a church where Christ is preached and you can find people who will encourage and help you.
