Q:

My husband died two years ago and is already in heaven, and I miss him so much. I feel so lonely, and I yearn to be reunited with him. Besides that, my health isn't very good now. Is it wrong to want to die and go to heaven?

A:

No, it’s not necessarily wrong to yearn for heaven. After all, heaven is our final home if we know Christ, and we should be looking forward to it! The Apostle Paul said, “I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far” (Philippians 1:23).

At the same time, God doesn’t want us to neglect the opportunities and responsibilities He’s given us right now. God has a reason for keeping us here, and as long as He gives us life, we should make it our goal to serve Him faithfully. The Apostle Paul yearned for heaven — but he also knew God still had work for him to do. He said, “If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me” (Philippians 1:22). May this be your attitude also.

Take time every day to thank God for the hope we have of heaven because of what Jesus Christ did for us. By His death and resurrection from the dead He erased sin’s charge against us, and conquered sin and death and Hell. Jesus said, “Because I live, you also will live” (John 14:19). Is your faith and trust in Him?

Thank God too that some day all your burdens will be over, and you will go to be with Christ forever. Then all our sorrows and pains will be finished, and we’ll be reunited with those who have gone to heaven before us.
