Your loneliness and your desire to re-establish a relationship with your late husband are understandable, but I strongly urge you not to give in to this temptation. The Bible is clear: We should avoid anything that has to do with the occult (which includes any attempt to have contact with the dead).

Why is this? One reason is because occult practices of any kind could bring you into contact with supernatural forces that are not from God—and are even opposed to God. This isn’t always the case, of course; much of what passes for such things is actually bogus or fraudulent.

But not all occult activity is a sham; some of it is demonic. The Bible labels such things as “detestable,” and says, “Let no one be found among you … who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead” (Deuteronomy 18:10-11). These are sobering words, and I hope you will take them seriously.

Instead, I urge you to turn to Christ and find your comfort in Him. By His death and resurrection He conquered death and Hell, and when we put our faith and trust in Him, we have hope—hope for the future, and hope right now. Jesus said, “He who believes in me will live, even though he dies” (John 11:25).
