Q:

I agree with you when you say we are separated from God, but I don't think we should think of God as some great power "out there" that we need to be reconciled with. God is within every one of us, and we just need to look within ourselves to discover our true oneness with the Divine.

I sincerely hope you will be open to what the Bible says about the greatness of God–because once you understand who He really is, you won’t be satisfied with the little “god” you have put in His place. The Bible calls Him “the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity” (Isaiah 57:15, NKJV).

Have you ever asked yourself what it is that separates us from God? Is it just ignorance (as you seem to suggest)–or is it something more? The Bible says that only one thing separates us from God, and that is our sin. God is holy and pure–but we are unholy and impure, and because of that we are alienated from God. Even one sin–just one–would be enough to keep you out of God’s presence forever, and yet (as the Bible says) “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10).

Our greatest need is to be forgiven and cleansed of our sins. But can we do that by ourselves? The answer is no. And that is why we need Christ, for God sent Him into the world to become the final and complete sacrifice for our sins.

Why did God do that? He did it because He loves us and wants us to spend eternity with Him in heaven. Don’t be deceived, but by faith turn to Christ and open your heart and life to Him. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
