Q:

I guess you'd say I'm sort of a "Christmas and Easter Christian" because those are about the only times I bother going to church. But this Easter, something about the service kind of got under my skin, and I'm wondering if maybe I need to give God a chance. But how do I begin?

A:

Have you asked yourself why the Easter service you attended this year got under your skin and made you think more seriously about your need for God?

The reason, I believe, is because God is working in your heart, giving you a hunger for Himself that you’ve never had before. He is doing this because He loves you, and He wants you to know Him and love Him in return. More than that, He wants to give you a new reason for living, and a new ability to deal with your problems and uncertainties. Above all, He wants to give you the gift of eternal life. Don’t ignore His voice or turn your back on Him any longer! Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him” (John 6:44).

How do you begin? First, by a simple prayer of faith tell God that you’re sorry you have turned your back on Him all these years, and you want to turn from your sins and have Jesus Christ come into your life. Jesus’ promise is for you: “Whoever comes to me I will never drive away” (John 6:37).

Then take steps to grow in your faith. Ask God to guide you to a church where you can learn from the Bible about God and His will. Set aside time also to pray and to read the Bible, which is God’s Word. Don’t be a “Christmas and Easter Christian” any longer, but make Christ the center of your life every day.
