Q:

I grew up in a Christian family, but I've said "No" to God so many times that I'm sure He must have given up on me. But now I'm facing a crisis - cancer surgery - and to be honest, I'm scared. Is it too late for me to turn to God?

A:

No, it isn’t too late for you to turn to God – and my prayer is that you’ll do so without delay, because you need Him now more than ever. The worst decision any person can ever make is to decide to face eternity without Christ.

The reason it isn’t too late is because God loves you, in spite of the fact that you have repeatedly rejected Him. If someone turned their back on you and repeatedly rejected your friendship, you’d probably give up and decide you didn’t want to be their friend after all. But God isn’t like that! Even when we ignore Him and want nothing to do with Him, He still stands ready to forgive us and welcome us into His family – because He loves us. The Bible says, “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever” (Psalm 100:5).

What must you do? First, turn to God and confess your sins to Him. Tell Him that you know you’ve ignored Him and treated Him with contempt, and that you’re sorry for your sins. Then ask Christ to come into your life and cleanse you of all your sins, trusting Him as your Saviour and committing your life to Him as the ruler of your life. God’s promise is for you: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Acts 2:21).

Then commit your future to Him. God knows what you’re facing – and will never abandon you. Remember: When we know Christ, “Whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord” (Romans 14:8).
