Q:
I've heard it said that heaven is a place of peace and rest, but others say we'll be busy in heaven because God will have work for us to do. Which is it? They can't both be right.
A:
Yes, both can be right — and they are! In this life, our work tires us and keeps us from rest, but it will be different in heaven.
How is this possible? The reason is because in heaven we’ll never grow tired or weary, even when we’re doing the work God has for us. In heaven, we will have new bodies like that of Christ’s body after His resurrection. Unlike our present bodies, our heavenly bodies will be untouched by the curse of sin, and because of that, we’ll never grow old, experience pain or sickness, or become tired and weary. The Bible promises, “Just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man (Christ)” (1 Corinthians 15:49).
We won’t be bored in heaven; instead, we’ll have all eternity to explore the incredible wonders of God’s majesty and grace and perfection. We also will have the privilege of serving God in ways we can barely imagine now. The Bible says, “The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him” (Revelation 22:3).
The real question, however, is this: Are you certain you’ll go there when you die? You can be, by putting your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. By His death and resurrection Christ destroyed sin’s power over us and opened heaven’s gates to all who put their faith and trust in Him. Don’t delay, but commit your life to Christ today.
