Q:
Suddenly I'm facing something I know might kill me (cancer) and I don't think I can take it. How can I get through this? You'll probably tell me to turn to God, but I've never had anything to do with God and I know it's too late.
A:
It’s never too late to turn to God, and that’s exactly what I hope you’ll do. Perhaps you’re afraid He’ll reject you because you’ve spent your life rejecting Him, but that’s not true. Don’t spend the rest of your life believing a lie!
Instead, turn to Jesus Christ and commit your life and your future to Him. God loves you, and He wants to welcome you, forgive you and give you hope for the future. How do I know this? I know it first of all because I’ve seen it happen in the lives of countless people over the years. But I know it most of all because Jesus Christ gave His life so we could be reconciled to God. The Bible says, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us” (1 John 3:16).
What difference will Christ make? First, He’ll give you inner strength to face the future. We’re never alone when we know Christ, and even when our way is hard, we can look to Him for the help we need to carry us through.
But Christ also will help you by giving you hope for eternity. Don’t give in to despair, but put your faith in Christ, and trust His promise that someday you’ll be with Him in Heaven forever. The Bible’s words are true: “You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety” (Job 11:18).
