Q:
I'm trying to decide something about my life, and a woman in our town says she can tell your fortune. I think she uses special cards or something. Do you think she could give me some good advice about my future?
A:
I strongly urge you not to get involved with this person, or with anyone else who claims to have a supernatural ability to foretell the future. The Bible is clear: We are to avoid anyone “who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens … or who is a medium or spiritist” (Deuteronomy 18:10-11).
Why do I urge you not to consult this person? One reason is because many who say they can foretell the future are actually frauds; they’ll only take your money. But others have aligned themselves with supernatural forces that are not from God, but from Satan. Becoming involved with someone who is deeply committed to occult powers can only bring you harm, in spite of their claims. The final step in King Saul’s tragic downfall took place when he turned for advice to an occult fortune-teller (see 1 Samuel 28).
Turn instead to Jesus Christ for the wisdom you need about your life. God loves you; He loves you so much that He sent His Son into the world to give His life for your salvation. Turn to Jesus Christ and commit your life to Him today.
Then ask God to guide you as you make decisions about your future. His way is always best, and He wants to show it to you—because He loves you. Pray … seek guidance from godly friends … search God’s Word, the Bible … trust Him to lead you. The Bible says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go” (Psalm 32:8).
Have you trusted Jesus with your eternal future?
