Q:

I know you believe in heaven, but how do you know it even exists? After all, there isn't any evidence for it. As far as I can tell, death is the end of everything, so we might as well live it up and have a good time while we can. At least that's what I intend to do.

A:

If this life is all there is, then I could understand why you feel this way. You are like the rich man in one of Jesus’ parables: “I’ll say to myself, ‘You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry'” (Luke 12:19).

But God called that man a fool—and for good reason, because this life is not all there is, and that very night his life would come to an end. He had prepared for happiness in this life, but not in the life to come. Don’t let this happen to you!

How do I know this life isn’t all, and beyond it is eternity—either in heaven with God or in the place the Bible calls hell, separated from God forever? I know it for one reason: Jesus Christ died, and then He came back to life by the power of God. And because He did that, we know death is not the end, and that God’s promise of heaven is true. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies” (John 11:25).

Don’t gamble with your soul, and don’t waste your life pursuing things that will not last. Instead, turn to Christ and give your life to Him. Not only does He promise you eternal life in heaven someday, but He promises you a new life right now. Don’t let anything keep you from Christ.
