Q:
A few months ago, a couple came to our door wanting to talk about their religion. At first, we were interested, but now they keep coming back and we can't get rid of them. What should we do? We don't go to church or anything, so we can't use that as an excuse.
A:
Have you ever asked yourself why they keep talking with you? The reason is simple: They hope to talk you into becoming members of their religion. They know that the more contact they have with you, the harder it will be for you to pull away.
But I hope you’ll have the courage to break contact with them, because this group (which you mention by name elsewhere in your letter) rejects what Christians have always believed about Jesus our Saviour. I realize you’ve not thought about God very much until now — but I pray you won’t end up missing heaven because someone talked you into taking the wrong path. Jesus warned, “Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it” (Matthew 7:13).
So far God hasn’t had any place in your life. But we are incomplete without Him, and the most important truth I can tell you is that God loves you, and He wants to make you complete. And He has done everything possible to make this happen, by sending His Son into the world to bring us back to Himself. He did this by giving His life for us.
By a simple act of faith turn to Jesus Christ and commit your life to Him. Then ask Him to help you find a church where you will grow stronger in your faith by learning from God’s Word and spending time with other believers.
