Q:

Didn't Jesus say somewhere that it was hard to take the path to heaven, and only a few people would make it?

A:

Perhaps you're thinking of Jesus' words near the end of the Sermon on the Mount: "Small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to (eternal) life, and only a few find it" (Matthew 7:14).

In those words, Jesus was reminding His followers of two important truths. The first is that when we come to Christ, He calls us to turn our backs on our old sinful, self-centered ways of living, and start living instead the way He wants us to live. Jesus warned, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me" (Luke 9:23).

The other truth, sadly, is that most people decide to turn their backs on Christ and take the other path. To them it looks easier, and it's also the way most people seem to be going. Instead of handing their lives over to Christ and becoming His followers, they want to keep control of their lives, and they refuse to seek God's will. Tragically, Jesus warned, this path leads to only to death and destruction.

Don't be misled by simply following what the crowd does, but turn to Jesus and commit your life to Him. Since He was willing to give His life for you, shouldn't you be willing to give your life to Him? He alone offers us hope, both for this life and the life to come.
