A friend of mine thinks that we were living in heaven after God created the universe, and God sent us to earth so we'll appreciate heaven a lot more once we return there. Did she get this from the Bible?

No, your friend did not find this in the Bible (and to be honest, I'm not sure if I've ever heard this idea before; it is purely the product of someone's imagination). The Bible says only one person ever left the glory of heaven and came down to spend a lifetime on this earth - and that was Jesus Christ.

Although He was born in a stable and spent His entire life in one small corner of the Roman Empire, the Bible tells us that He wasn't just another human being; He was God in human flesh. Think of it: From all eternity He knew heaven's glory, and yet He "made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness" (Philippians 2:7).

Why did He do this? He did it because God loves us, and He wants us to spend all eternity with Him in heaven. The problem is that we are sinners and are separated from God, and our greatest need is to have our sins forgiven and cleansed. And Jesus Christ made this possible through His death on the cross for us. The Bible says, "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God" (1 Peter 3:18).

Do you know Christ? Are you trusting Him alone for your salvation? Someday you will die and enter eternity, and it will be too late for you to make your commitment to Christ. Jesus' promise is for you: "In my Father's house are many rooms. ... I am going there to prepare a place for you" (John 14:2).
