For some reason, down inside I have a desire to know God. What would you suggest I do?

The first thing you should do is thank God for giving you this desire to know Him. He has put this spiritual hunger within you because He loves you and wants you to come to know Him.

And you can know Him, because no matter what your background has been, God wants you to become part of His family. Only one thing separates us from God, and that is our sin—and this is true for every one of us. But Jesus Christ came down from heaven for one reason: to do away with our sins. To put it another way, He came to break down the barrier between us and God; He came to bridge the gap. He did this by taking upon Himself the punishment we deserve when He died on the cross for us.

What should you do? First, don't ignore the desire you have to know God. If you ignore it or suppress it, the day may come when you no longer hear God's voice calling you to Himself—and then it will be too late. The Bible says, "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near" (Isaiah 55:6).

Then tell God you know you need Him, and ask Christ to take away your sins and come into your life. God's promise is for you: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Open your heart to Christ and ask Him to come into your life today—and He will.
