Hurricane Harvey damage
An estimated 30,000 to 40,000 homes have been destroyed in the Houston area alone.
Hundreds of Hurricane Harvey evacuees have traveled to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to find shelter. Many have gathered at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, which can hold 5,000 evacuees. In Dallas, chaplains Sue and Paul Dowdy pray with a family from Houston—one of many who have suddenly found themselves homeless. The family weathered Hurricane Katrina before moving to Houston but told chaplains they're not angry, only grateful that God has protected and provided for them.
Chaplains praying in Texas
Though they've been displaced twice from hurricanes, this family remained joyful in the hope of Christ. "But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you." —Psalm 5:11, ESV
